Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone has evver worked for either Avon or Mary Kay? I've always liked beauty products and things like that, and I want to somehow make that my line of work. My questions are
1. If anyone has worked through the abovementioned companies, How were you able to sell the products. Did you have to have someone help you sort and label the bags and deliver the booklets and bags to different people?
2. Did you enjoy the work? I'm hoping to at some point do some job shadowing to see what the job is like for them and what to expect. Thanks for the help, and hopefully I was clear enough.

Leslie-
It's been years but the two experiences I had with Mary Kay the representative did instruction parties on how to use and apply the makeup.
Unless they've restructured how they do things, I believe those sample and application parties are part of the job.
On the other hand, I've never heard of Avon having that kind of party where the rep demonstrates use and application. Make sure you find out.

Believe it or not, I sold Mary Kay for a few years. I knew I couldn't see to do the whole facials thing, so I concentrated on the skincare and fragrance lines. If people knew what they wanted in the makeup department, I would order it for them. Back when I did it, if someone ordered through my website, I had to figure out how to get the products to the customers. One thing I could do is place an order through the In Touch website, which is the site I loged in to for the business and ordering side of MK. I could order the products that the customer ordered and have it shipped to them, though the shipping was on the high side. If I didn't do it that way, I had to rely on my own inventory.
Right now, I'm having a Scentsy party, and I had thought about becoming a consultant. What I like about this company is that when someone places an order through my website, the company shipps the products straight to the customer, so there's no inventory for me to have to maintain.
I have a close friend who sold Avon, and she also had to figure out how to distribute her products. With avon, they would send my friend new products when they came out, and bill her for them. She said she felt blindsided. She never knew when they might send her a new jar of eye cream and bill her for it. She was on a very limited income, so this was what made her decide to stop selling it in the end. I still say the best bet is to find companies who ship directly to the customer, so there's no inventory for you to deal with, and no worry about how you're going to manage to get the products to the customer. Even when someone placed a Mary Kay order through me and I had the products on hand, I still had to get to the post office to ship them. I hope you find this information helpful. It's been a few years, so do some checking, in case things have changed now.
